Multiple Intelligences
By Victor H. Lopez, Specialist on Intelligence Stimulation and Early Education.
In 1983, Dr. Howard Gardner, Ph.D., professor of education at Harvard University, introduced his Theory of Multiple Intelligences in a book named “Frames of Mind”. Dr. Gardner identified eight different kinds of intelligence. Based on his work as a psychologist researching brain injuries and the arts, he suggested that I.Q. testing, is far too limited. Intelligence is not a single attribute that can be measured. He pointed out that I.Q. tests measure mainly verbal, logical, and some spatial intelligence; Dr. Gardner believes there are many other kinds of intelligences to account for a broader range of human potential in babies, children and adults.
Dr. Howard Gardner´s 8 multiple intelligences are:
1. Linguistic intelligence
2. Logical intelligence
3. Spatial intelligence
4. Body intelligence
5. Musical intelligence
6. Interpersonal intelligence
7. Intrapersonal intelligence
8. Naturalist intelligence
